July Milestone Achieved - Waqf Grants Now in Review + £91K Raised

Reviving Legacy: From Donations to Impact
Your Waqf Update - July 2025
Message from our CEO
As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh,
This month marks a significant milestone in delivering our vision to solve the funding needs of the UK Muslim community through the revival of Waqf.
In July, we opened our grant applications with the aim of funding UK-based organisations using income generated from our very own public waqf. This is our model in action, a self-sustaining system, built on community giving, now actively supporting the community in return.
Although it is a small step in terms of numbers, in reality, it represents something far bigger; the revival of a Prophetic model that is beginning to bear fruit. Waqf is a continuing charity, a sadaqah jāriyah, and this milestone is living proof that the model still works.
Every donation, every standing order, has made this moment possible. Together, we’re not just giving — we’re building. We’re planting something that will outlive us, serve others, and please our Creator.
Jazakumullahu khairan for your support.

Chief Executive Officer, National Waqf

Alhamdulillah, July was a month of momentum.
- Muslim Charities Convention: Trustee Wahid Azizi delivered a powerful message on sustainable Islamic investment models, exploring how asset-backed approaches can transform the charity sector.
- National Da’wah Convention (iERA): We joined key conversations on infrastructure and legacy in the da’wah sector. Our trustee Wahid Azizi also spoke at the event, sharing insights on sustainable investment and the role of Waqf, a topic he also addressed at the Muslim Charities Convention.
- Roots for Professionals – Final Session: Our CEO delivered a closing talk titled Prophetic Finance: Leaving a Legacy, urging professionals to shift from donation culture to legacy building through Waqf.
- Thought Leadership: We published a feature article exploring the Waqf-based foundations of Al-Azhar and what it teaches us about building institutions that last.
- Community Presentations Now Available: We’ve opened up an invitation to masjids, community organisations, schools, and societies across the UK: if you’d like to host a National Waqf presentation, we’ll come to you. Our team will deliver a tailored session introducing the Waqf model, how it works in practice, and how your community can benefit. Get in touch to book a slot.
- Grant Applications Now Closed: Our first-ever grant funding round opened and closed in July. We received 151 applications from across the UK, a powerful sign of the demand for structured, sustainable funding. All submissions are now under review.
Fundraising continues to progress steadily, with growing engagement from both individuals and institutions.
Grant Giving update
This month marked a major milestone for National Waqf: the launch of our first-ever grant funding cycle, fully powered by the returns of our own Waqf assets.
- Platform Launch: Built fully in-house, our new application system was designed for accessibility, transparency, and simplicity.
- 151 Applications: Submissions came from across the UK, a clear sign of demand for structured, sustainable funding in our sector.
- Proof of Concept: Most importantly, this grant round is the clearest evidence yet of our model in action, where investment returns power community benefit.
This is the beginning of something enduring: a funding ecosystem where giving today builds a better tomorrow, perpetually.
